In this beautifully packaged 16-CD set, EMI Classics is proud to release Klaus Tennstedt's complete Mahler recordings. Tennstedt was renowned as a Mahler interpreter. While his discography includes recordings of Beethoven, Brahms, Strauss, Wagner, Prokofiev and Kodaly, the centerpiece of his recorded legacy is the Mahler cycle he recorded with the London Philharmonic.
Tennstedt's affinity for Mahler, however, was something he did not develop until his career was well established, partly because Mahler's music was banned by the Nazis during his student years. "I came late to Mahler," he told Roy Hemming in an interview for Keynote magazine in 1985. "And I think maybe that is better. Except for Mahler's First Symphony, I think you need experience in life before you can be a good interpreter of Mahler. All the things he composed in his works -- love, hate, fear, joy, cynicism, all this -- you cannot fully understand when you are young."
Tennstedt set about Mahler with a unique and dangerous intensity. Heeding neither caution nor fashion, he embodied the composer's expressed preference for exaggeration. Every rehearsal became a life-and-death struggle; each concert required a health warning, the musicians fearing for his safety and their own. His Mahler recordings contain the most terrifying of Sixths -- a symphony in which Tennstedt heard pre-echoes of Nazi horrors -- and the most lyrical of Sevenths. His account of the Eighth Symphony is unaffectedly majestic, the first credible record of that gigantic unresolved question.

何度も聴いた4番がこれほど感動的だったとは!! ここにはマーラーの真価が刻まれていると思う。現代の最新録音のような解像度や分離感はないが、十二分に音楽的な録音だ。この感情表現の豊かさ深さに私は満足している。

La versión mahleriana de Tennsdet se beneficia de la controvertida personalidad del director; las versiones en momentos son do lentas.. pero entran en el ánimo del compositor. Por tanto son versiones quizá indicadas a gente con espíritu taciturno y algo decadente.. Son versiones para reflexionar.
Además hay tres grabaciones en vivo de las sinfonías 5, 6 y 7.. increíbles versiones.
En mi opinión ¡MERECE LA PENA!, y sobre todo beneficiado por el precio del cofre.


Personalmente ritengo questo cofanetto delle registazioni di Tennstedt con la London Philharmonic complessivamente il più grande ciclo delle sinfonie di Mahler disponibile sul mercato. La monumentalità dell' opera che comprende anche il Das Lied Von Der Erde e ulteriori registrazioni dal vivo della Quinta , Sesta e Settima sinfonia, mi costringe anche per motivi di tempo, a sorvolare sulle singole composizioni.
Dirò solo che la sua Seconda è di assoluto riferimento, seconda però ad una sua registrazione successiva, dal vivo, disponibile sul mercato, che la sua Terza può essere solo accostata a quella di Mitropoulos, Horenstein e Bernstein, che le registrazioni dal vivo della Sesta e Settima sono un vero e proprio testamento spirituale , un' esperienza dell' anima, che il suo Canto della terra può essere paragonato solo a quello di Walter e di Karajan e che presenta forse il più desolato Abschied che abbia mai udito, ma i riferimenti sarebbero tanti e tanti altri.
Il pensiero e il rimpianto poi ci fanno inevitabilmente immaginare quali e quante altre esecuzioni, quante pietre miliari ci avrebbe potuto lasciare questo grande interprete.
Cinque stelle non potendone dare sei.
