フランティシェク・イーレクによるヤナーチェクの管弦楽曲全集の第3巻は、この偉大な作曲家のもたらした最晩年の豊かな実りを味わえる、素晴らしい作品集になっています。

村上春樹さんの小説で有名になった、第1曲の「シンフォニエッタ」は、私は先にジョージ・セル指揮クリーブランド管弦楽団の演奏で聴いていました。巨匠セルの演奏の印象はオリンピックで体操競技の名技の数々を息を呑みながら見入る感覚に近かったのですが、当演奏はもっと素朴な力の発揮というか、良い意味での粗野な喜びの充溢という印象です。音楽が静かに進行していく部分では、柔らかく野原を渡る風のような心地よさです。
第3曲目の「ヴァイオリン協奏曲『魂のさすらい』」を聴いていると、この作曲家の到達した境地の驚くべき深さを知ることができます。まるで地球上での自然現象のように、様々な音色や旋律が溢れ、生成消滅していくのですが、強引な作為を全く感じさせません。第2曲目「交響詩『ドナウ』」、第4曲目「劇付随音楽『シュルークとヤウ」』では、この作曲家が本質的に劇的な天分の持ち主であることを伝えています。ただし私自身は標題付きの交響詩を好んで聴いているわけではないので、本当にこれらの楽曲の良さが分かっているかどうか。
特にオーケストラの様々な音色を楽しんでこられた方にはこの音盤全体の、独墺や北欧、フランスやイギリスの同種の楽曲との、著しい相違を発見され享受されることと思います。
そしてヤナーチェクの音楽が一過性の流行に終わらないよう、多くの方にじっくり味わっていただきたいものです。

村上春樹の有名な『1Q84』の底流をなすヤナーチェクの《シンフォニエッタ》。聞いたことがある人もない人も、ぜひぜひこのCDの演奏を聴いてください。ヤナーチェクに対する認識が一変します。

今風に言えばチェコ共和国の田舎で地道にオルガン学校で音楽を教えながら細々と地元民謡の編集＆編曲と作曲を続けたのがヤナーチェクです。しかしですよ、ヤナーチェク存命中はオーストリア・ハンガリー二重帝国の一部。チェコと言えばボヘミアと短絡的にとらえてしまいますが、ヤナーチェクはモラヴィア人です。ブルノはモラヴィアの首都。そうです、モラヴィア語はチェコ語ではないんです。
いわゆる「ご当地もの」としての演奏による迫力と美しさと慈愛に満ちたヤナーチェク作品群。西ヨーロッパでのヤナーチェク評価がやたらと高いのは、地元の人たちによる強い愛情の賜物なのかも知れません。
第１集と第２集も併せて聞いてみてはいかがでしょう。私は3CDセットで購入しました。お勧めです。

I have been a fan of Janacek since the mid 1980s but have only discovered Jilek's recordings recently. Previously I found that the orchestral works tended to be over-driven, but Jilek allows it to unfold naturally, and his recordings are mostly from the 80's and 90's and in my view are better than anyone's. I first spotted his name in the lovely CD of the Hradcany songs on Supraphon and wish I had investigated him years ago.

The least useful item on the present disc is the Sinfonietta, certainly one of Janacek's greatest hits, and there are myriad recordings of the same. This one is hardly at the top of the heap, good though it is. What it has going for it is a certain rawness, a primitiveness in the playing--a virtue in this case. We want a pesante quality to the performance; polish and suavity have no place at Janacek's table. Of course, there is a historical connection as well: Brno, where Janacek taught at the conservatory, was the composer's home for many years.

In the other works, there is far less competition, and I really think both orchestra and conductor are more engaged. For these works alone, the disc is valuable indeed. "The Danube" is a tone poem in four movements that may or may not have something to do with the eponymous river. The piece is, nonetheless, interesting, atmospheric music, not the least for the inclusion of a wordless soprano solo in weirdly jaunty third movement. The same can be said for "Schluck und Jau." Like most late Janacek, and that includes "The Danube," it is built out of tonally vague, short motifs that are repeated over and over again with a hypnotic cumulative effect. A prognosticator of late-20th-century minimalism, Janacek now seems very current indeed. In fact, if John Adams didn't have that third movement of "The Danube" in his head when he composed "The Chairman Dances," well, chalk it up to the Great Minds Think Alike phenomenon.

However, the most remarkable piece on the disc is the Violin Concerto. This is a nominal concerto but more a tone poem with obbligato violin. Janacek subtitled the work "Pilgrimage of the Soul," which might, as in the case of most tone poems, give you an inkling as to what the composer had in mind when he put pen to paper; your reaction might be quite different. Be that as it may, this is fascinating music: mysterious, insinuating, with quietly apposite orchestration, including subtle use of percussion. Even if you won't hear the Violin Concerto in the concert hall soon (its short duration argues against that), you can still enjoy this intriguing work thanks to the good folks at Supraphon.

Cet album propose trois oeuvres tardives que Leoš Janácek (1854-1928) laissa à l'état fragmentaire ou inachevé.

Entreprise en 1923, la symphonie "Dunaj" illustre le Danube et recourt à une viole d'amour et aux vocalises d'une soprano. La partition connut une première exégèse vingt ans après la mort du compositeur ; elle est ici jouée dans sa version révisée en 1985 par Leoš Faltus et Miloš Štedron.
Ces deux musicologues reconstituèrent aussi l'avant-gardiste Concerto pour violon intitulé « le pèlerinage d'une âme », qui fut présenté en première audition en 1988.
C'est Jarmil Burghauser qui assembla les esquisses autographes de la musique de scène pour "Schluck und Jau" de Gerhart Hauptmann.

Ces trois oeuvres ici captées en janvier 1992 par Supraphon figurent parmi les ultimes témoignages discographiques de František Jílek (1913-1993), spécialiste du répertoire lyrique qui avait dirigé les Opéras de la ville d'Ostrava puis de Brno entre 1939 et 1978.
Rappelons que Jílek avait aussi reçu l'enseignement musical de Jaroslav Kvapil, lui-même élève de Janácek, garantissant l'authenticité de cette approche par un des derniers grands maîtres de la tradition tchèque issue de la source même des compositeurs du XIX° Siècle.

Sans pompiérisme aucun, son interprétation fine, transparente et poétique de la coruscante "Sinfonietta" est un exemple de sobriété que l'on doit méditer.
