十分名演なんだけど・・・

チェコは長い期間、周囲の国々の侵略にさいなまれた苦難の歴史を歩んできました。チェコ国民楽派の開祖べドルジハ・スメタナはそういうチョコの国民の誇りになるような音楽を作りたいと願い、チェコの自然や歴史を描いた6曲からなる連作交響詩を作曲しました。それがこの「わが祖国」です。チェコを流れるモルダウ（ヴァルタヴァ）川の情景を描いた第2曲の「モルダウ（ヴァルタヴァ）」は日本でも人気が高く、単独で取り上げられたり、合唱曲に編曲されたりして多くの方に親しまれています。チェコの古城をモチーフに国家の隆盛を描いた第1曲「高い城」フス教徒の伝説を描いた第5曲「ターボル」などなど、どの曲も魅力いっぱいです。

「お国もの」でもあり、チェコ人指揮者がチェコのオーケストラを振ったものに優れたものが多いです。当演奏はその中でも有名な演奏であり永らく愛されてきた屈指の演奏のひとつです。おそらく最初に聴いたらいたく感動したことでしょう。的確な指揮に応えてオークストラの各奏者はよく歌っていて、情緒、寂寥感、熱気・・・あるべきものがあるべきところにあります。

ところが、このコンビの1968年の「プラハの春」音楽祭のライブ演奏を聴いていたので魅力が霞んでしまいました。この演奏は1968年のライブ演奏の原型のような演奏なのですが、オーケストラの技術、精神的な充実度、即興性、燃焼度、いずれをとっても1968年のライブ[http://www.amazon.co.jp/Bed%C5%99ich-Smetana-Country-Karel-An%C4%8Derl/dp/B003P5NAQI/ref=sr_1_3?s=dmusic&ie=UTF8&sr=1-3&keywords=smetana+my+country]のほうがはるかに上をいっています。録音の音質においても古いライブ録音でありながら当スタジオ録音に遜色ありません。

ということで、この演奏はもちろん推薦盤なのですが、このコンビの「わが祖国」を聴くなら1968年のライブ盤を選んだほうがよりいっそう感銘を受けることと思います。

A esta obra no le tenía un gran aprecio. Conocía las versiones de Kubelik y generalmente no la escuchaba completa. Antes del final ya había quitado el CD y había puesto otro. Me cargaba la obra. Pues bien, con esta versión la he apreciado. Ancerl juega la baza de la intensidad y el dramatismo que no tienen el resto de versiones escuchadas. La orquesta se pliega a las intenciones del director y el sonido es bueno. Algún día volveré a escuchar Kubelik, a ver que tal. Si este también es tu caso -con la obra-, mi recomendacuon es que le des una oportunidad a esta interpretación. Ha sido una revelación para mi.

MY COUNTRY (Ma Vlast, also called in English, My Fatherland) by Bedrich Smetana is a gorgeous set or cycle of tone poems that form a six part symphony. To learn about the geographical and historical foci of these individual tone poems and this entire symphony (aspects of Smetana's homeland--the Czech Lands, subsequently Czechoslovakia and later the Czech Republic) brings appreciation to both the parts and the whole of the symphony. The second and best-known tone poem, Vltava (known in German and often in other languages as the [river] Moldau), sounds like brooks and streams trickling, bubbling, splashing, and converging into still larger tributaries and at last swelling into the Vtlava itself, which courses through Prague and continues then on its subsequently more peaceful way.

Smetena composed the work as a paean to the Czech nation at the stage in his life when his musical activities had become restricted by the onset of deafness. Nevertheless, however this loss of hearing may have influenced his work as a composer, this symphony can be mesmerizing. Indeed, it often has been so. My Country is not music that people either love or hate; rather, listeners tend either to like or to love the symphony. There really is little here that's not to like, and there's certainly much to love.

This recording from 1990 was made at the Smetana Hall of the Municipal House in Prague by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under Rafael Kubelik in the time of his celebrated return to Prague after an absence that began in 1948. The glory of the moment, in a time still aglow from the events in Eastern Europe of 1989, imbues this luscious symphony through the playing of the orchestra with a quality such that this recording rises to the top of most, if not all, lists of the finest recordings of Smetana's patriotic masterpiece.

Hearing another recording of My Country long ago later drew me to Prague, where then tarnished beauty still spoke of brighter days that Smetana himself had seen. But, through the subsequent years, Smetana's Ma Vlast has helped me, in turn, to remember the beauty of both Prague and the Czech lands--particularly the sight of the stately Vltava flowing through Prague--with a fondness that would be otherwise diminished lacking the passion and beauty of My Country.

je connaissais cette oeuvre dans d'autres versions (Kubelik -1990 printemps de Prague- notamment mais aussi l'ancienne version Talich de 1929); le disque d'Ancerl s'impose à la fois par ses qualités techniques ete par sa sensibilité bohémienne; les tempi sont alertes, la direction dramatique et lyrique; que puis-je ajouter?

I have listened to so many different versions of Ma Vlast over the years, yet however good some of the other records are to varying degrees I still have not found a recording that can hold a candle to Ancerl. I've grown up with this performance since having it on vinyl as a kid. It has to be one of my most played CD sets. Why? It has to be one of the finest interpretations of any music ever put to disc. It also has the benefit of the Czech Philharmonic playing out of their skins with a recording as good as you'll get from this source.

I deliberately haven't mentioned anything about the music itself - that's a matter of taste, although I personally dote on it.

This has to be one of the most "special" recordings it has ever been my pleasure to own and I would urge anyone to join in the experience.
