Brilliant playing but it's not all of L'estro Armonico!

Tafelmusik play these Vivaldi concertos with great style and energy, but I was very disappointed that the CD contains only 8 of the 12 concertos of Op 3; not only that, but they are played in completely random order. Even more misleading are the accompanying notes, which specifically discuss the logic of the twelve concertos and their grouping into four groups, each starting with a concerto for four violins. On this disc, there is only ONE of the four- violin concertos! This is really a fraud on the buyers, given the way it is advertised, so be warned! .

As one who grew up with Neville Marriner's classic performances of the complete set of the "L'Estro Armonico" concerti, I could scarcely believe my ears in listening to this recording. - I found it electrifying and thrilling beyond belief.

What performances! What playing! One now feels that Marriner must have been nearly asleep, so dull are his readings. I urge all lovers of Vivaldi's music to listen to these magnificent interpretations, surely exciting the very canals of Venice with the brilliance of what Lamon, Wallfisch, and the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra have accomplished here.

Sadly, indeed incredibly, MANY CONCERTI ARE MISSING (not recorded) - a tragically stupid editorial decision on the part of the Canadians. Were the ones which were recorded not so superb, I would have to drop my rating considerably, but performances of this quality demand to be heard!

I give this disc 5 stars for performance. Listen to the presto from the well-known Concerto No. 6 in A Minor for Solo Violin. Tafelmusik truly takes this movement "presto". But it never sounds rushed or frantic; only supremely energetic and very well executed. My only qualm is that they only include concertos nos. 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 11, and 12 from the total twelve! Just be aware of what you are paying for. Great, great playing!
